At Monterail, we often hear from our employees that one of the most rewarding aspects of working here is the people. The answer lies in our shared beliefs, which are communicated to everyone - from candidates to alumni - and accepted by all. 

Recognizing the importance of continuous growth and improvement, we embarked on a journey to rediscover our company values last year. As we continued to evolve, it was clear that our current values needed to be reviewed to ensure they remained relevant and aligned with our goals and aspirations. The rediscovery process focused on identifying values that align with our company's evolving needs and the network of clients, contractors, and service providers we're creating.

Our beliefs help us create a supportive, respectful, and inspiring workplace where everyone gets an equal opportunity to succeed. In practice, we ensure that Monterail remains a place where amazing things happen through our teamwork. We're dedicated to building a culture at Monterail that's even more collaborative, innovative, inclusive, and professional. By rediscovering our values, we want to ensure that our culture remains strong and that Monterail continues to be a place where everyone can grow and contribute their best.

The process of rediscovering Monterail's values was incredibly powerful and empowering. By involving employees at all levels, we ensured that our values reflect our collective identity and dedication. This journey has deepened our unity and clarified our mission, inspiring us to strive for success together.

A rediscovery journey for authentic company values

We believe rediscovering company values should be an open dialogue that includes everyone, which means that C-level and leadership teams cannot discuss it behind closed doors. That’s why we started by evaluating how well our current values align with the team and identifying the most resonant ones. Through a company-wide survey, we gathered insights from every team member to ensure inclusivity and transparency. Next, we organized a meeting with an employee focus group, where members shared their thoughts and discussed rediscovering company values.

As Monterailians, we possess strong technical skills, but the focus session revealed that we also bring diverse backgrounds and expertise to the table. Our commitment to defining universal values fosters an environment where current and new team members can thrive. Adapting to the changing world is essential, and having support from colleagues across different departments is invaluable. I realized that regardless of personal or professional challenges, Monterail provides a space where solutions can be found.

One of the great moments during the focus group was when we started talking about what we think the company values are. We quickly realized that we all understood them the same way; we just used different terms to describe them. So, the discussion became more about finding the right words. It showed that we really share the same values; we just needed to align on the language.

In the next phase, we conducted focus group meetings with department heads to gather their input about the values they want to see in our company. Finally, we organized a workshop with our C-level team to present the results from all previous steps and discuss their vision and aspirations. As one of the final steps, we worked on writing the final version of our rediscovered values, which you’ll see below. 

By involving everyone, we made sure that our values authentically represent Monterail's shared vision and beliefs.

We are driven by action and execution. We take full ownership of our work and see projects through from beginning to end. When tackling obstacles, we proactively seek solutions with an open mindset.

In the face of setbacks, we prioritize improvement over assigning blame to ensure the effective completion of the job. We hold ourselves accountable for both successes and failures. We solve the problems and deal with the challenges, seeing them as growth opportunities.

We built a culture of open communication. Providing mutual feedback and recognizing areas for improvement are fundamental to employee engagement throughout the entire company. 

Evolve and adapt

We adapt. Constantly learning, we stay up-to-date with ever-changing market needs and develop solutions that resonate with current demands and evolving priorities. As a team, we adjust our plans and priorities as necessary, responding to shifts in circumstances and feedback.

In our daily work, we prioritize state-of-the-art solutions and best practices. At the same time,  we also recognize the importance of experimenting with different approaches without fear of uncertain outcomes. Switching smoothly between these two approaches allows us to explore innovative solutions without reinventing the wheel.

Diversity is not just a buzzword for us but a fact and a strategic advantage. We believe that the best ideas emerge at the crossroads of various perspectives. 

We celebrate and support diversity, creating a culture where everyone—within and beyond our company's walls—matters, irrespective of their culture, gender, communication styles, backgrounds, or beliefs.

We build diverse teams and, based on a combination of different experiences and perspectives, create products that have the potential to make an actual impact. As a company, we firmly advocate for social causes that we passionately believe in, refusing to remain silent on issues that matter to us.

We’ve asked Krzysztof Kaiser, our Head of Design & Business Analytics, which of the newly articulated values he found most crucial for his department's success and why. Here’s what he said: 

For our Product Design team, "Embrace Diversity" is essential. Diverse perspectives enhance creativity and ways we can reframe problems and think through our solutions. I think it leads us to better decision-making and solutions that understand unique customer needs. Additionally, a diverse team boosts knowledge sharing and just makes our work much more creatively inspiring. Complementing this is our ability to adapt, now more important than ever, as the ever-evolving fields of design and technology seem to be approaching a radical change.
